Olam has the conservation and ecology scientist Dr. Shailendra Mishra appointed Head of Climate, Environment and Natural Capital Division.
Mishra joins the Singapore-based agribusiness company after more than four years at the Asian School of Environment in Singapore, where he worked as a specialist in nature-based solutions for various systems, including agriculture.
Mishra assumes the role of leading Olam Group’s global corporate strategy for environmental sustainability, which encompasses climate action, regenerative agriculture and ecosystems.
“As a conservation and ecology scientist, I have always been passionate about the development of nature-based solutions and how those solutions can improve socioeconomic outcomes,” he wrote on LinkedIn. “I look forward to contributing to the vision of the entire Olam Group to positively shape natural, climate and livelihoods.”
During his career, Mishra has worked as a research associate at Nanyang Technological University and has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Singapore Center for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering and the NUS Environmental Research Institute.
Mishra’s recent scholarly work has included an overview of the state of Southeast Asia’s peatlands and the best ways to manage and restore them.
Mishra has a PhD from the National University of Singapore on the ecological causes of tropical peatland oxidation and the causes of greenhouse gas emissions from peatlands.
