CPPCC National Committee members discuss ecological civilization


The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference held a promotional meeting Thursday, at which two of its members gave lectures on building an ecological civilization.

Other CPPCC members from Beijing and Yinchuan from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region attended the meeting via video link. It was one of a series of activities organized by the CPPCC to promote the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party.

Song Xin, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group, gave a speech on implementing the concept of green and low-carbon development from Beijing.

He said that in the report for the 20th CPC National Congress, there is a chapter on ecological civilization, which emphasizes the pursuit of green development and the promotion of harmony between humans and nature.

During his speech, Song shared his understanding of the historical achievements in building an ecological civilization in China, the importance and innovative measures of developing energy-saving and environmental protection industries.

Jiang Qi, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and a researcher in forestry and grassland ecology from Ningxia, narrated the story of the construction of the Three-North Shelter Forest Program at the venue in Yinchuan.

He presented the background, history, aim and importance of the project, as well as its achievements in building an ecological barrier, maintaining food security, improving people’s livelihoods and showing a good international image for the country.

Cui Bo, chairman of the CPPCC Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regional Committee, who chaired the conference, called on political advisors in the region to contribute wisdom for building an ecological civilization.
